Aria is expecting to inherit her family’s Manchester firm from her bereaved father; it’s why she’s been putting off her own wedding for 10 years. Simon Reeve has never been afraid to get his hands dirty, and this four-part series of journeys to the most remote regions of Earth sees him plunging into more muddy, gripping adventures. He begins in Papua New Guinea trekking through the jungle in search of the elusive, outrageously cute “tree kangaroo”, the tenkile. Phil Harrison

Smashing police misogyny and solving crimes is all in a day’s work for DI Emma Crane (Michelle Keegan) in this new drama. After a teenage girl is murdered in murky circumstances, detectives search for answers, but it’s the subplot of corruption and wrongdoing that’s the one to watch. Hannah Verdier

The latest reality spectacle loosely masquerading as a social experiment continues to be entertaining. Things get a bit Walking Dead this time as baseball bats are brandished after a dispute over stolen chickens threatens to escalate. An interesting companion piece to 2023’s Remembering Gene Wilder, Chris Smith’s intimate film focuses more on the actor’s anxieties, perfectionism, withdrawal from public life and search for meaning. Archive, interviews and previously lost footage flesh out the picture, while Wilder’s nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman provides a personal lens. Ali Catterall

Wasteman (Cal McMau, 2025), Netflix
The brutal realities of prison life in Britain are dissected in Cal McMau’s claustrophobic, sweatily tense drama. David Jonsson, soon to be the next Black Panther, plays a very different hero here: Taylor, a drug addict incarcerated for manslaughter. He’s soon to be eligible for parole so he’s trying to keep his head down. Unfortunately, his new cellmate, Dee (a menacing Tom Blyth), will do anything to take over the jail’s drug trade from Paul (Alex Hassell, definitely not in Rivals mode) and forces the desperate Taylor to assist him. How to Live on Earth (Fredi Devas, 2026), YouTube
Benedict Cumberbatch’s measured tones introduce “the world’s greatest how-to video” – Fredi Devas’s suggestion box of solutions to the climate crisis. The documentary sweeps across the globe from China to Chad, Brazil to Singapore, with chapters focusing on ways to protect and respect nature, create sustainable agriculture, even put a monetary value on biodiversity. It’s all tentatively optimistic despite the devastation on display, and the praiseworthy activists and scientists profiled offer at least some hope for the future. SW

This mockumentary is a sequel to a 2007 Canadian web series and 2017 Vice TV sitcom you probably haven’t heard of. But don’t let that get in the way of enjoying a gloriously silly Back to the Future rip-off. Endearingly inept Toronto musicians Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol (playing themselves) decide to skydive from the CN Tower to promote a gig they haven’t even secured. But an inadvertent trip in a time-travelling RV throws their plan into comic chaos. SW
